The monitor ships pre-assembled with the base and upright bolted together. Movements are in keeping with a premium display and have no excess play or wobble. For gaming monitors we tend to treat color accuracy as a nice bonus but considering this display is nearing the $1,000 mark, it’s probably more important than usual. Greyscale deltaE averages are still around that 4.0 mark as a result. Check out NASA's intriguing four-wheeled rover prototype made for planetary exploration, Intel Core i3 vs. This might work for some content, but in general it altered color and contrast unacceptably. acer xv273kpbmiipphzx, acer 8acumhx3eep04, acer umhx3eep09, acer umhx3eep04, acer 229251, acer 197525, acer 27quot, acer 1ms, acer xv3. BA1 1UA. We realize $900 remains a lot to spend on a monitor, particularly when high refresh 1440p displays are available at half the price, but Acer's shot at bringing 4K 120Hz gaming to the masses is commendable. Core i5 vs. I’ve read a few complaints online about 400 nit HDR, all I can say to them is this is a 27 inch monitor, designed to be used at close range than say a 60 inch tv made to be viewed from a distance, in that case I would agree 400 nits is too low. In the SDR mode we’re getting around 430 nits peak which is more than enough for most viewers, and when combined with great viewing angles particularly in the horizontal plane, this is a highly viewable monitor. Once enabled in the Control Panel, color and brightness amped up nicely. I bought this monitor a few weeks ago directly from acer thanks to a promotion where I managed to get a decent discount. Acer has given this monitor a definite gamer aesthetic without going overboard with it. We recommend using the normal mode that with a grey to grey average response time of 7.52ms, the display effectively is bottlenecking to around 120 Hz anyway. The only way to run adaptive sync and HDR simultaneously on this monitor is with a stout AMD graphics card and FreeSync. All this goodness wouldn’t be much without DCI-P3 color and HDR, and the Nitro XV273K offers both. Receive mail from us on behalf of our trusted partners or sponsors? That is not perfect, and not the 1.0 Acer claims, but for gamers we think it's good enough. However the extreme mode introduces overshoot with many transitions. The stand is height, tilt and swivel adjustable but there’s no pivot motion, so you can’t use it in a portrait orientation. The Nitro XV273K is much cheaper, often retailing for around $900. The issues getting that 144 Hz mode to work well are largely technical limitations that will be solved on future iterations. The XB model (top) features a fairly broad stand with metallic ‘feet’, plus a detachable anti-glare hood. © 2020 TechSpot, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Once you’ve set up the XV273K to your liking, you can save the settings to one of three memories. There’s also a low blue light mode, a mode that uses the ambient light sensor to automatically adjust settings, a few cheat crosshairs, plus some other goodies. Join thousands of tech enthusiasts and participate. That’s what we used during our testing. Plus it supports FreeSync and is G-Sync Compatible certified. Ships from and sold by M-X-C Tech. For SDR signals, one should use the sRGB color mode, but unfortunately, it has below-average grayscale tracking and can’t be calibrated. The XV model features a simpler design. Despite the Nitro XV273K’s more desirable price, compared to the Predator X27 and Predator XB273K, it still includes the same high-quality light hood and a factory calibration with data sheet. There are some workarounds that buyers have discovered, but they are pretty complicated and to be honest, the difference between 120 Hz and 144 Hz isn’t large enough to warrant the effort. While the effect isn’t as dramatic as that of a monitor with a full-array local dimming backlight, like the Predator X27, it was more impactful than playing the game in SDR mode. The Acer Nitro XV273K is one of those monitors that is in a unique position because there aren't many like it on the market. It’s not a particularly slim monitor, it’s perhaps slightly thinner than the X27 as there’s no FALD backlight, but you’ll mostly be viewing it from the front where the bezels are moderate if a little larger than normal. So if you do want to run at that refresh, the image is clearer than with the equivalent G-Sync Ultimate displays, albeit without adaptive sync in most cases. You won't see VA-like numbers, but it’s decent enough. Uniformity is not amazing and about a typical result for a gaming-grade monitor. Features and Specifications. The option to reset to factory defaults is in the signal info screen. The results we got from the Acer Predator X27 in uniformity and color performance are better than what this panel provides. In fact, we were stunned by how sharp and detailed the environment looked. Playing Tomb Raider gave us the chance to make a few comparisons. This combination of the sRGB mode and a software profile would be fine for creators, especially as the monitor uses an IPS panel with great viewing angles and decent wide gamut performance. Making it less than perfect, that top end 144 Hz refresh rate isn’t as usable as we would like. We downloaded 419.35 dated March 5, 2019. You have the super expensive G-Sync HDR panels that cost $2,000, but if you don’t care about HDR and just want a high-refresh 4K monitor, it’s basically the XV273K you want to buy, or nothing. But if you’re willing to go with AMD FreeSync (the aforementioned three offer Nvidia G-Sync) and a little less HDR contrast, the Nitro XV273K offers 4K and 144Hz for under a grand ($900 / £900). The input panel also features a 3.5mm headphone jack or if you’d rather leave your ears open, there are two built-in speakers driven by 4-watt amplifiers. Glistening sweat almost made us squint, thanks to the Nitro’s high brightness. Visit our corporate site. With that said, we can understand what Acer has tried to do here. The Asus ROG Swift PG27UQ and Acer Predator X27 will both extract at least $1,800 from your wallet. You will receive a verification email shortly. Switching to the sRGB mode things do improve, but perhaps not to the level we'd have liked. In fact, this monitor is G-Sync Compatible, so the Nvidia Control Panel automatically detects it as an adaptive sync monitor and applies the appropriate settings for you. Unfortunately fixing the incorrect white point does require a software profile. However, the Nitro XV273K’s HDR mode is still an improvement over SDR. Once this is installed, we simply turned on the FreeSync option in the Gaming menu, and the G-Sync option appeared in the Nvidia control panel. If high-refresh 4K is what you want, the XV273K is definitely the monitor you should get. While this may be a beautiful screen for gaming, the setups that can even power it at rates exceeding what lower cost screens can achieve are barely measured in single digit percentages. The on-screen menu uses a directional toggle -- that’s a tick in my book -- plus a few shortcut buttons. Why two DisplayPorts? We’ll show you how to make this happen and play a few games to compare the monitor’s performance with the two competing technologies. If the monitor is connected to an Nvidia graphics card, engaging HDR in the Windows control panel grays out the FreeSync option in the OSD and deep-sixes G-Sync along with it. If you’d prefer to use your own bracket or monitor arm, Acer included a stout metal adapter with a 100mm VESA mount. Overall the stand is very sturdy, which is great to see. I've seen 27-inch 4K and 27-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) monitors side-by-side, and there really isn't much of a difference. Simply lift it out, make your connections and go. On-screen display (OSD) controls are around the back right and consist of a power toggle, three buttons and a joystick. The Acer Nitro XV273K makes a few compromises to get its price under $1,000. But worst of all, enabling the 144 Hz refresh rate disables FreeSync; not an ideal situation for gamers that benefit greatly from adaptive sync with such a high resolution. The panel is also VESA-certified to DisplayHDR 400, which means bright highlights and deep blacks in HDR mode and vivid color that goes well beyond sRGB. I suspect the market for these things is horrendously small, as in a minuscule percent of an already tiny percent of gamers. If you want to enable a 144Hz refresh rate, you’ll need to connect two DisplayPort cables, then turn on the option in the second screen of the System menu. There isn’t much in the way of bass, but detail is respectable. In addition, there’s an LED desk light that shines from the bottom of the monitor. This behavior was a little unusual given the supposed factory calibration and isn’t quite close enough to the ideal white point to get our tick of approval. The Acer Nitro XV273K is the first monitor to bring a 4K resolution and 144 Hz refresh rate to gamers at a more affordable price point. Perhaps there’s a higher level of factory calibration for what is a $2,000 display. While this panel is capable of a 144 Hz refresh rate, enabling it is hidden away in the on-screen menu. They are matched by two more on the down-facing input panel. A little red is added to the upright where it meets the base, which is a nicely finished piece of solid aluminum. There, you can choose from five gamma and four color temp presets, plus a user adjustment with gain and bias sliders. Acer also offers the Predator XB273K for around $1,200. We started by connecting the Nitro XV273K to our aging gaming PC with an AMD Radeon R9 285. By supporting 144 Hz through dual DisplayPort rather than a single cable like with the Predator X27, the monitor is capable of running at that refresh rate with 10-bit color for HDR without chroma subsampling. That graphics card is woefully underpowered for a 4K monitor. © The DisplayHDR 400 certification means the XV273K fails two of the three key metrics for good HDR performance. The accessory bundle also sports two DisplayPort cables and one USB 3.0 cable, along with the external power brick. The FALD backlight is what brings proper HDR to the table and with that feature missing, we’re no longer getting true HDR capabilities. Styling is understated, like all Acer gaming monitors, with just a few angular pieces of trim setting it apart from vanilla-looking business displays. Core i7 vs. Another option to check on is Super Sharpness. What you will find in the menu though are some neat features including black frame insertion mode for increased clarity, I personally never use this mode but I know some people find it useful. It's nothing amazing but we don’t imagine too many people will run the monitor in this mode. As for contrast, it’s typical for an IPS at around the 1000:1 mark. As for other elements, we get a little bit of RGB LED action along the bottom edge but that can be disabled. Like most websites, we use cookies to improve your experience. Some picture modes will turn that on automatically, and it produces obvious ringing that only reduces clarity. And work it does; we ran Nvidia’s G-Sync pendulum demo without issue. It’s divided into six sections, starting with basic image controls. There was a problem. OK, we’re still talking about a premium gaming monitor at a premium price, but the Nitro offers quite a bit to owners of high-end gaming rigs. Here are our SDR settings. This is what we used, even though the color gamut was too large for SDR content.
