the wild parrots of telegraph hill book

many more details.

I wanted to like this book. Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2018.

The author is a unique person, and his writing was interesting, and entertaining, maybe especially so for me because (1) I like birds and (2) I live near the particular birds discussed in this book. Under other more typical circumstances of work, work, work this perspective might have never been possible. I heard about the documentary about the wild parrots on NPR and when they mentioned the book I wanted to read it.

The Penguin Lessons: What I Learned from a Remarkable Bird, Wesley the Owl: The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and His Girl, Alex & Me: How a Scientist and a Parrot Discovered a Hidden World of Animal Intelligence-and Formed a Deep Bond in the Process, The Parrot Who Owns Me: The Story of a Relationship, Kicked, Bitten, and Scratched: Life and Lessons at the World's Premier School for Exotic Animal Trainers, Born Wild: The Extraordinary Story of One Man's Passion for Africa. In that case, we can't... Like a lot of young people in the 1970s, Mark Bittner took the path of the "dharma bum." I didn't think a whole book on a flock would carry me along. This is a beautiful, unforgettable book. Unable to add item to List. There was an error retrieving your Wish Lists.

I found the birds enjoyable and, well, bird-like. Please try your request again later. All black and white. Whilst I found it difficult to get interested in all the authors beliefs I found his story fascinating. I just finished reading this book. very good if you can get over the author's bohemian (read "gross") lifestyle.

After wandering the streets of San Francisco staying wherever he could find shelter, someone told him about an ad for a caretaker of sorts for an elderly woman in exchange for a studio apartment. We work hard to protect your security and privacy. AND, I am not sure why! Many seem to have once been captive birds that were released.
A 'feel good' event in the main. There are sections in the book I could easily read several times. Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2019. I normally love these kinds of books, but the writing style here was a bit dry and I was left often times wanting more. Great story. After reading a few chapters into the mind of the Bohemian bum that hangs around San Francisco, I realized two things. Mark Bittner was a homeless vagabond, failed musician and a self styled dharma bum.

The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill is the inspiring story of how one man found his life’s work―and true love―among a gang of wild parrots roosting in one of America’s most picturesque urban settings.

with Wings. I met Mark and his wife after seeing their documentary of the same name and bought the book after they came to a speaker event at my local library. As Bittner became more and more fascinated with the parrots, he began to feed them, and this growing intimacy led to naming the birds and following their relationships.
